USING EXISTING TECHNOLOGY TO MANAGE YOUR TIME, FOCUS ON KEY PRIORITIES, AND GET CONTROL OVER YOUR EMAIL

A key factor in how we are perceived as leaders and as key contributors to our organizations is in how well we manage our time.  But there are hundreds of interruptions in our day that keep us from achieving our goals. This is particularly important at the executive level, where a 2013 McKinsey study reported that nearly 50% of corporate executives say that they’re not spending enough time on strategic priorities.  That study recommended treating time-management as an institutional issue because time-scarcity is only getting worse with the growth of “always-on communications, organizational complexity, and unrelenting economic pressures that are compounding an age-old challenge.”

This Lunch and Learn session will provide useful tips on how to manage daily interruptions and how to use the advanced features of your existing email and calendar system to:

  • set and meet key priorities,
  • stay on top of important projects,
  • improve communication among team members, and
  • eliminate most of the unproductive email that wastes, on average, more than 73 minutes of each day.

Because MS Outlook remains the most popular email and calendar system among businesses today, the session will provide some instructions for changing key defaults in Outlook to help turn this existing software into a true business-management tool.  But even if you do not use Outlook, the time management tips can be applied to such technologies as IPhone, IPad, Blackberry, Lotus Notes, and GoogleApps.

Some topics that will be covered:

·         Tips for managing your email In-Box and setting up rules and folders

·         Four simple rules that will keep your desk and inbox clear

·         Using the Task and Flag function correctly to focus on daily priorities

·         Using the Contacts feature more effectively by attaching notes and hyperlinks

·         Better team communications by establishing an email/communications charter
