The Suncoast Chapter of ASTD has partnered with the Central Florida (Orlando) Chapter of ASTD and Nick Elkins of Artisan E-Learning to bring you a FREE virtual chapter meeting.

Do you wear many "hats" in the workplace? Ever feel split between the role of HR partner, instructional designer, trainer, and a performance improvement consultant? If you answered yes, then this session is for you!

Overview

To ensure we are improving performance in the workplace, I mean REALLY improving performance, we have to become 'schizophrenic' - not in the clinical way - rather in the colloquial sense (i.e. to have two personalities). We need to retain our existing personality as HR partner, instructional designer, consultant, trainer, and add a new personality as performance improver, which can be quite a roller coaster ride at times.

You will gain some ideas (should you embark upon the journey to PI thinking) to spark critical thinking, enhance engagement in your organization and with customers, and some effective planning, too. You will also get a sense of how one training manager is far down the line in converting his training team to a learning and performance team. We will explore the potential barriers and traps, the quick wins and benefits. Most of all, you will get a view of some of the challenges facing the emerging markets and how PI has assisted us to improve how we develop people. At best - a roadmap towards PI thinking; at worst - a fascinating glimpse into learning and performance in Africa. You cannot 'un-hear' the PI Messages, so this session may change the way you see performance gaps forever.

Our Facilitator From South Africa: Alwyn Klein, an enthusiastic and innovative learning professional, was the first to earn the CPLP designation in Africa. In addition to a Master's Degree in Psychology, he is one of five known dual certified professionals, holding both the CPLP from ASTD and the CPT from ISPI. He has contributed to a local online HR magazine and was a speaker at ASTD ICE in Chicago 2010. Alwyn will always share practical steps to implement ideas based on personal experiences, some successful and some, let us say, less successful - either way, lessons from beyond theory. He lives by this motto - "To be successful, we need to start with the three Hs of Head (knowledge and skill), Heart (passion), and Hands (hard work)." This motto won him Rookie Motivational Speaker of the Year at the Marketing and Advertising and SOHO Expo 2000. A firm believer in being at the leading edge of learning technology, Alwyn enjoys no better thrill than, together with his team, conceptualizing (usually while out jogging), testing, and implementing new creative instructional strategies to enhance learning. He is currently Senior Manager for Learning and Performance at a large African Mobile Phone Company.
