Professional Coaching:

What it is, what it isn’t, and how to know the difference.

For some, it may be hard to remember a time when the only images conjured by the word “coaching” were sporting events and pep rallies; it’s not really so long ago when that was the case.  Today, “coaching” is used for everything from football to relationships, from career and work performance and leadership, to LIFE itself.

In our organizational context, coaching might first be considered as a primary focus only on the individual, but it’s easy to recognize coaching’s influence at the team and organizational level as well. Coaching, as the frame of an OD-SIG discussion, should result in a rich sharing of perspectives and experiences.

Bobbi Gemma, as a professional coach and a trainer of professional coaches, will make a short presentation of the competencies now considered essential, and then field questions and facilitate discussion.  Possible issues might include professional vs informal coaching and the boundaries implied between the two, what contracting a coaching relationship looks like, interventional vs developmental coaching, or others of interest identified by those attending.

We hope you will decide to join us Friday, August 1.

Bobbi Gemma is a Master Certified Coach through the International Coach Federation, and is a founding member of that group. She has coached a full spectrum of dynamic people over the past 13 years, and is affiliated with the Pyramid Resource Group, a nationally recognized coaching company. Her business experience includes sales, project management, marketing consulting and outplacement counseling in both profit and non-profit organizations. She has owned three businesses in publication, consulting, training/development and coaching. Over the past 22 years she has been focused on personal and professional development training, assessments and coaching.
